I sit upon the roadside,
Somewhere between the lands of Now and Midnight.
I sing up to the passing clouds
That reflect the silver moonlight.
My journey is not yet over,
But I find I have no desire
To continue down the road
Without someone here beside me.
Several people passed me.
They waved before walking on.
They said they had to get somewhere
Before the day was gone.
Eventually, I know,
Someone will come along.
They’ll come and sit beside me,
And learn from me my song.
Then once they know the words,
We’ll walk together down the road.
We’ll chuckle, weep, and sing my song,
And discuss the things of old.
But for now I sit alone,
In the silent dead of night,
Waiting beside the road
Between the lands of Now and Midnight.
